My walk through of Marjorie Sarnat's amazingly popular colouring book 'Creative Cats' complete with a number of pages I've coloured using different mediums. Creative Cats is one of the long list of colouring books printed by Dover Puplications under their Creative Haven lines. I discuss the paper quality of 'Creative Haven' books as well as talking about how different colouring mediums will perform on this paper and a few ideas you may like to try with your own books.

  1. I’m very happy you have so many planned. I learn every time you post. I’ve promised myself not to buy more books for a while but can’t wait for that dog one you mentioned!

  2. I did it! I bought an adult coloring book yesterday!! You convinced me. As a crazy cat lady I’d have loved to get a cat one but the only cat one I could find wasn’t great, it was actually a bit child-like the designs and stuff.. so I got a meditation one filled with Mandalas (put pic of the book I got on my instagram) and I already colored in my first design. It definitely released some creativity and helped my mind to calm.

  3. I bought the owl book and i’ve used faber castel pencils, but the paper was too smooth (?), I thought a bit more roughness on the paper would help catch more pigment. I also used sharpies on some pages and they do bleed through (I also put a paper in between pages to protect the next page), but aside from the bleed through, I noticed that the thin pages of the book had little crumbling when it dried. I hope you understand me as English is not my first language. 🙂 But I love your coloring, I will definitely get this book next! More power to you and your channel! ♥

  4. I would love to see how you use your gel pens! Your videos really have helped me take my coloring to the next level. 🙂

  5. Wow , I was not so keen on buying this book but after seeing your pages coloured I am inspired 🙂 Beautiful work.

  6. Oh I really do hope you will do a picture with just gel pens like you said, I would love that! I have a huge collection as well that I mostly use for card making, but as much as I want to use em for colouring I am a bit scared of ruining the pictures since the ink flows rather heavily with gel pens. Please please do a video on that!

  7. I love the Sharpies and the Bic Mark it markers, too! Have you seen the Bic 36 pack? That one is even more lovely! More shades of the secondary colors, although, it is a bit more but totally worth it! And the Dog book is out now! It is a really nice book!

  8. Can I use Stabilo 88 fineliners in this coloring book? Or do they bleed through and ruin my next cat image..

  9. Thanks for sharing. I think now that I have seen the interior of this book I will be purchasing it for myself .I appreciate that you take the time to do these videos.

  10. Peta, I just recently found your YouTube channel and I’m SO glad I did! A friend of mine brought “The Secret Garden” and “The Magical City” to my attention and I was interested but your work is SO inspirational that I think I will take the plunge! And I love the “Creative Cats” book too! Thank you for taking us along on your colorful journey and for the great inspiration!

  11. Your coloring skills are superb! I’m jealous! Lol I thought the pictures you have colored were already done by the company! Lol beautiful book and beautiful coloring! TFS!

  12. I love the idea of using different media. I used to do that many years ago when I was very into rubber stamp art, but I hadn’t thought of using different media for coloring. It’s been either the medium of marker or the medium of colored pencil. I’m definitely going to try mixed media for my coloring pages!

  13. Have you changed your mind about doing the tutorial on shading using the cat faces? I hope not haha!

Creative Haven has some great coloring books out!

    1. +Irkallah no, i just have a very long list of tutoruials to do. I’m holidays in a weeks time so i hope to film a whole lot of them including the cat face one.

  14. Peta: This is one of the first books I got but I’ve hardly touched it as I have no idea where to start – color-wise.

  15. Oh yes! please please do a tutorial or several with gel pens, you dont really seem to see those on youtube and I love gel pens and love your work so would enjoy a combination of both.

    1. Hi Gil. I have insane amount of gel pens but I tend to use them in heavily detailed pattern work as I don’t really like to use them on large areas. I am still learning how to blend with them so I’ll hold off a video until I am confident using them.
